Dropped the proverbial bombshell on 2 of my tuition students yesterday. Their mother wasn't pleased At All, and I was glad to escape from their flat after enduring the inevitable recriminations in apologetic silence. Yes, it was irresponsible and maybe a little mercenary of me to take on a tuition assignment in the knowledge that I might have to abandon it later in the year, but after all the rationalised guilt, the fact remains that I will choose a fully sponsored overseas education over doing the morally right thing any day. Besides, I did warn 'em. Right at the start.
There will be some unpleasantness over the next few weeks, but since I've been working on thickening my hide, it won't be anything that I can't handle. I hope.

oh, come now. you can't be expected to forsake your future for tuition students. their parents should know that. and you're already giving them more than a month's notice, so there's nothing to feel guilty about really.

er, in photo albums? bulky, inefficient traditional photo storage. the future is digital, i know, but the cash is in short supply...
i'll scan some of them when i find the time. which is... i don't know when.
yes, i pointed out politely that i was giving more than one month's notice, but she insisted that one month was insufficient because, apparently, tutors are hard to come by this time of year, most of them being 'tied down' with students.

she was just throwing temper tantrums. at any rate, i'll find out soon enough whether there are other starving undergrads, because the moment she gets hold of a new tutor, i'm going to be fired.
